The idea for The Yard began in the backyard of an old Santa Monica craftsman beach house with $5,000 and a picnic table back in 2002. With no signs or advertisement, we built a bustling bar that focused on creating community among all kinds of artists and people who lived on the Westside.  Once we outgrew our “clubhouse” idea, we decided to take The Yard one step further, and opened our first gastro-pub in March of 2008 in downtown Santa Monica.

Opened in 2008, The Yard gastropub features a relaxed “Cheers” style atmosphere, excellent and friendly service, and a convenient Downtown Santa Monica location – all with some of the best food and drinks on the Westside.  The Yard offers American-style tapas cuisine with seasonal, Farmers Market fresh specials created by renown chef Chris “CJ” Jacobson from Bravo’s “Top Chef.”  CJ’s signature dishes include Fresh Fish Tacos with Cumin Slaw, Grilled Skirt Steak with Horseradish, Crispy Beef Cheek, Pan-Seared Diver Scallops with Mandarin, Marinated Beet Salad with Grilled Avocado, and Pulled Pork Sloppy Joe Sliders.  Of course, we also feel we have one of the best burgers in LA: an 8oz house-ground burger (chuck, short rib and skirt steak) with Carr Valley cheddar, grilled onions, heirloom tomato, shredded lettuce, and homemade 1000 Island dressing on a Rockenwagner bun.  All dishes are made with the freshest ingredients from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, one of the largest markets on the West Coast.

The Yard also offers an extensive drink menu featuring 8 craft beers on tap, 30 bottled beers, boutique wines by the glass, and a market-fresh seasonal cocktail list by mixologist Blake Landis.  We also have regular tasting nights, which feature new and unique beers, wines and cocktails, often paired with new menu creations by CJ.  True to their roots, the Yard also features local live music, DJs, film screenings and art exhibitions.   Our homegrown film festival, YardFest, has regular screening events on our 8’x10’ screen.  There is always something going on at The Yard!

The Yard’s happy hour is daily from 5pm-7pm and features $3 beers and $5 margaritas.
